5 Habits Sabotaging Your Progress in The Gym
Not committing to a specific goal: It’s impossible to not be motivated when you have a worthwhile goal ahead of you. Now, im not saying you have to be committed to an extreme goal like breaking a world record in the deadlift or a bodybuilding show. But you should at least have SOMETHING specific you’re chasing after that gets you excited to push yourself forward daily. Having a blurry picture of what your goals are can leave you feeling lost and unmotivated. Think hard about something you’d want to accomplish and go all in on it!
Not being consistent: Results rely on momentum. Momentum is created by showing up consistently day in and day out and eventually it becomes second nature. But this starts with the commitment that you arent gonna quit this time! Showing up one day and not showing up the next leaves you in an unmotivating cycle of stopping and starting. Avoid this!
Too much thinking, not enough acting: Its nice to muse about what you’re gonna do one day. But eventually you just gotta start. Every second you waste NOT taking action on your goals is a day you’re further behind. If you’re lost and dont know WHERE to start, find someone who has been where you want to go and ask them for help whether it be a friend, coach or mentor.
Slacking on your nutrition+ sleep: Training is only one part of the equation when it comes to results. Those who get the best results are bullish when it comes to executing on nutrition and recovery as well. Whenever you are able to dial these in, your results will skyrocket.
Thinking you dont have enough time: We are ALL busy. Sure, you maybe cant commit the time you used to when you were in high school, but you can carve out some time for quality work related to your goals. Even if this means SHORTER, less frequent workouts. Maybe it means less sleep in some cases…But the bottom line: Youre BS’ing yourself by using time as an excuse. You must find a way to make it happen if you are serious about your goals.
