Everything Changed When Failure Became Expensive
I remember getting the keys to the unit that would officially become Bryksquad Barbell in a matter of 72 hrs.
My garage was packed with equipment that my wife and I had gone out on a limb to buy over the previous six weeks, along with pieces I’d collected over the years.
I remember standing in that empty gym thinking two things at the same time.
I was incredibly excited.
And I was honestly scared as hell.
Because my dream was no longer a “someday.”
It was an “It’s here. Figure it out.”
I’d already built a solid online coaching business.
But taking on the overhead of a brick-and-mortar facility changed everything.
The rent was due whether I felt motivated or not.
The lights had to stay on.
Every decision suddenly carried more weight.
I couldn’t afford to drift anymore.
I found myself thinking about marketing constantly. I became more intentional with my content. More systematic with my sales process. More disciplined with how I spent my time.
Not because I’d magically become a better entrepreneur
overnight.
Because I had to.
Looking back, opening the gym didn’t just change my business.
It changed the entirety of how I operate.
It forced me to stop treating growth like something that would happen eventually and start acting like it depended on the decisions I made that day.
I’ve noticed the same thing in training.
The biggest jumps I’ve made weren’t during the periods where I casually wanted a bigger squat.
They came when showing up became non-negotiable. When skipping a session wasn’t part of the conversation. When the goal stopped being something I hoped for and became something I was committed to earning.
I’ve seen the same pattern with clients.
Something changes when the goal becomes real.
The standards go up.
The urgency goes up.
The consistency goes up.
And the results usually follow.
Think about your own goals.
Your training.
Your total.
Your physique.
Are you simply working toward them?
Or have they become something you refuse to let slip away?
There’s a big difference.
And that difference has a way of showing up in your decisions, your consistency, and ultimately, your results.
The answer to that question will tell you a lot about what the next year looks like.
